Designer Erik Lindstrom invited The Subterfuge Set—me, Impeccable Seattle's fashion stylist Sarah Elizabeth Caples; socialite, Korene Hubacka; It girl, Jiawen Shi; and homestlyist, Eduardo Mendoza of Rosichelli Mendoza, among many other notable Seattle style, art and real estate industry people to a chic party in Belltown.
Last Thursday night's event was a celebration of Garret Cord Werner's custom furniture, lighting, and rugs and of new works by local artist Caleb Raux. The piece shown here, Subtle Spires, is a good representation of Raux's brooding, deeply affecting works now showcased in the GCW headquarters among the spectacular furniture designs. GCW is an acclaimed, Seattle-based, high-end interior design firm that creates looks for both residential and commercial projects. GCW has partnered with the 25-year old artist, who for the time has been more widely known for his music since breaking into that scene in 2007. Raux has indisputably and successfully entered into a new territory with his art now being showcased at GCW.
Needless to say, the party-goers all seemed to appreciate the gestalt of artistic influences displayed in the clean, modern showroom. The aesthetic appeal of the company is dramatic, masculine, and forward. Yet, it manages to be warm and inviting at the same time. The use of fabric where one expects leather, and leather where on expects fabric is perhaps the reason why the designers so effectively pulled off masculine and modern without the coldness one might traditionally associate with those qualities.
As the fabulous people of Seattle poured into the company's show room, one could see it was not just a showcase of beautiful designs, but of some of the most stylish people around. In past months I may have specifically said "the most stylish people in Seattle," but the cultural tide has clearly shifted here in our beloved city and so when I say "the most stylish people around, I mean anywhere you might go.
There were many well attired people for the gathering. Perhaps it was the combination of stylists like the ones mentioned above; artists like well known sculpturer Julie Speidel and glass artist JP Canlis; Luxury condo real estate brokers Dean and Stacy Jones of Realogics; and downtown urbanites that made the crowd so fun to look at. The party-throwers certainly had a success in terms of turnout. Not only did the crowd look great, but the room was packed- the foot traffic flowed in and out throughout the evening. People driving on Western and Denny were surely distracted by the action.
I bumped into the charming Leigh Canlis who was chatting up Ken Huber of Snap-Tex. Snap-Tex was a supplier to GCW's project on Hotel 1000 and their gorgeous fabric walls. Leigh, who is due two have her baby girl in two weeks, was radiant and beautiful—no matter how much she protests—and we're so excited for her and her husband JP to become parents. On our way out to our next event, Korene and I ran into Seattle's Spafford Robbins with Gerrard Beattie & Knapp Realtors. In case you don't know him, Spafford is of old Seattle guard, a warm, delightful character, who can bring a smile to anyone's face. Spafford promised to be our designated driver the next time us girls go out...does he know what he's getting into? I get the feeling that this rara avis can keep up with whatever antics Korene and I cook up. It's always a telling sign that you're in good company when you find Mr. Robbins at a party.
Thank you to Erik Lindstrom for inviting us!
