As usual, DJ Miguel Alvarado set pulsating and percussive tech-house beats to another sultry addition of Let’s Get Dirty. I’ve always loved See Sound Lounge for being one of the few Seattle nightlife destinations that strives to maintain an artsy, jet-set style ambiance that sets it apart; tonight was simply business as usual.
The sweltering heat of the day had abated in intensity, but left a lingering, torrid film in the night air; could one ask for better weather to accompany a party of the moniker “Let’s Get Dirty?” This reporter thinks not. While other clubs in Seattle were stewing in humidity-and mediocrity- See Sound Lounge patrons were enjoying a different atmosphere. The front windows were opened to the street, offering relieving breezes to febrile dancing bodies. With this backdrop setting the mood, who among us- dressed to the nines with a cocktail and swaying to undulating techno bass lines- can’t smell the legendary jasmine breeze of a hot Ibiza night?
The first duty in life, it is said, is to assume a pose. The second duty in life is, well, Let’s Get Dirty fans have yet to find out. They are a great crowd of people who know the importance of being chic. You shall not find fad “Rap,” style clothing -those saggy ill-fitting pants and shirts three sizes too large- here. I was thoroughly impressed with the ingenuity and execution of many outfits that night. From shoes to skirts, bags to jewelry, these people were taping into the collective consciousness and making it work like never before. My favorite of the evening was “Catch Me If You Can,” actress Taryn Darr. Her outfit was so dead-on, I literally grabbed her within the first 30 seconds she was in the club for a photo and a quick tête à tête. I was glad I could reassure her that the outfit she had purchased and styled herself was an excellent choice. Later that night I ran into Taryn on the dance floor and was told she had been deluged with positive comments from strangers all night on her sense of style. Excuse me whilst I gleefully boast; the Subterfuge set have a knack for spotting it first.

Dancing in and out of my line of sight was another charming beauty; she was a peripheral flash in resplendent cloth of silver. Much was in the way of my getting to her at first, people, columns and a dance floor. This was however, not the kind of outfit you come back to later in the night and hope will still be there. Her name was Indie and the dress was, to my surprise, an unlabeled dress purchased on a recent trip in Dubai. Kudos on the find, Indie!
