I adore all languages, but especially the English language. I adore it so much that to spend time and energy using it to talk about myself when there is art, music, dance, literature, film, theatre and fashion to be discussed seems trite. And of course I have my own creative writing, composing, art, studying and socializing to keep me occupied, so why spend too much time dwelling on what I say I am and do? I perceive that one of the most profound flaws of our culture today is the belief that we should be valued by our interests and our aspirations rather than our true commitments and accomplishments. It sounds lovely at first, but nothing gets accomplished and humility is rejected. Life just is not very enjoyable without ample humility, for it is the source of all wonder and empathy.
So let us do what we love to do, what we are meant to do, and then we can discuss the details over drinks. Or recite poetry. Or eat sushi. One of the joys of being dedicated to one's passion and gifts is that it gives one the freedom to be capricious about everything else. I may be a prescriptivist regarding language at times, but never regarding what we should be doing with our lives. Lalala.
